Vanaf 6 november 2006 gelden voor alle vliegtuigpassagiers die vertrekken van, of overstappen op, een luchthaven binnen de Europese Unie nieuwe regels voor wat meegenomen mag worden in de handbagage. De nieuwe regels gelden vanaf 1 juni 2007 overal ter wereld volgens de nieuwe veiligheidsrichtlijnen van de ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organisation).
Dit zijn de regels voor vloeistoffen in uw handbagage
- U kunt alleen nog vloeistoffen meenemen in verpakkingen van niet meer dan 100 milliliter
- Deze verpakkingen mogen alleen worden meegenomen in een doorzichtige plastic zak
- Per persoon mag één doorzichtige plastic zak worden meegenomen
- De doorzichtige plastic zak mag niet groter zijn dan 1 liter
- De doorzichtige plastic zak moet hersluitbaar zijn:
U kunt een geschikte doorzichtige plastic zak van thuis meenemen.
Onder vloeistoffen wordt onder meer verstaan:
- Water en andere dranken, soep, siroop,...
- Toiletartikelen : Crèmes, lotions, oliën, parfums, shampoo, sprays, haarlak, lippenstift, lipgloss, gels inclusief haar- en douchegels, tandpasta, deodorants, scheerschuim, mascara’s etc.
- Etenswaren zoals lopende kazen, chocopasta, jam, yoghurt, pindakaas, ...
- Medische producten zoals hoestsiroop, ...
- Sauzen, vloeibare voedingswaren, ...
- Alle andere producten met een gelijkaardige vloeibare consistentie.
Dit zijn de regels voor vloeistoffen in uw handbagage:
a. Babyvoeding, die voor de duur van de reis nodig is
b. Medicijnen, die voor de duur van de reis nodig zijn
U kunt gevraagd worden naar bewijs dat deze nodig zijn.
Toegestane formaat en gewicht
Een EU voorstel in de Europese commissie (wordt wet in mei 2008) voor alle luchtvaartmaatschappijen van, in en via de EU: Beperking op handbagage: maten: 56/45/25, opgeteld 126cm. Carriers die nu al aan deze maten voldoen: British Airways, Continental Airlines en bmi.

Handbagage KLM
Economy Class: Alle vluchten (m.u.v. vanuit de VS):
Eén stuk handbagage (max. afmeting 55 x 35 x 25 cm, 12 kg/26 lbs), inclusief een jas/deken, paraplu/wandelstok, handtas, cameratas en een redelijke hoeveelheid leesmateriaal.
World Business Class/Europe Select:
Economy Class-vrijstelling plus een 2e stuk handbagage (max. afmeting 45 x 20 x 35 cm), het totaal van de twee stuks mag maximaal 18kg/39 lbs. zijn.
Vluchten vanuit de VS:
Een stuk handbagage (max. afmeting 115 cm, 12 kg/26 lbs), Inclusief een persoonlijke tas (handtasje of laptop), jas, paraplu en opvouwbare buggy.

New rules on what is permitted in carry-on luggage took effect on 6 November 2006. In line with new global security guidelines issued by the International Civil Aviation Organisation, all passengers flying through most airports around the world will be subjected to restrictions on the carriage of certain items in their hand baggage, effective June 1, 2007.
These are the rules for liquids in your carry-on luggage
- You can only take liquids in containers of no more than 100 millilitres on board the aircraft
- These containers must be carried in a transparent plastic bag
- There is a limit of one transparent plastic bag per person
- The volume of the transparent plastic bag may not be greater than 1 litre
- The transparent plastic bag must be re-sealable
You may bring a suitable plastic bag from home.
Liquids include:
Water and other drinks, soups, creams, lotions, oils, perfumers, sprays, gels including hair and shower gels, toothpaste, deodorants, shaving foam, mascara’s etc.
These are the rules for liquids in your carry-on luggage:
a. Baby food, needed for the duration of the trip
b. Medicines, needed for the duration of the trip
You may be asked for proof that they are needed .
Dimensions and weight allowed
A European commission proposal (to become law May 2008) is valid for all carriers flying in, to and from the EU: Carry - on luggage dimensions: 56/45/25, adding up to 126cm. Carriers already complying are a.o. British Airways, bmi and Continental Airlines.

World Business Class/Europe Select:
As for economy class + 2nd piece (45/20/35), 2 pieces not to exceed 18kilo.
Flights starting USA:
1 piece carry-on luggage (max. dimensions 115, 12 kilo), plus handbag or laptop, coat, umbrella and/or buggy
